Factors for Promoting Growth of Phoebe bournei Cultivated in Pinus massoniana Forest

Abstract

Effects of different management and canopy density on height, DBH (diameter at breast height), volume of individual tree of Phoebe bournei was carried out by randomized block design. The results showed that three kinds of multiple layered patterns of interplantation extremely significantly improved the growth of P. bournei compared with cutting-blank forestation. The height, DBH and the current annual volume of individual tree and average increment showed a yearly increase in 1—12 years, showing 1—12 years old was fast growing stage. The multiple layered pattern of interplanting P. bournei with long-term canopy density at 0.4 to 0.5 would greatly help the growth of P. bournei and would be one of the key techniques managing the multiple layered P. bournei forest.
