Abstract

Scutellaria planipes Nakai et Kitag., a perennial herb of genus Scutellaria L., has only been found in Lingyuan City, Liaoning Province and is classified as a third-class protected plant in Liaoning province. This species was first published in 1934, however, Flora Reipublicae Popularis Sinicae, Flora of China and Species Catalogue of China all identified it as a synonymy of Scutellaria pekinensis Maxim.. In this study, a textual research on protologue, holotype, type locality, historical and current distribution area of S. planipes as well as the comparative study on morphology and pollen grains between the two species confirmed that S. planipes is an independent species and an additional description of the fruit was also made. The results here provide a reliable basis for the identification, conservation and further research on medicinal value of S. planipes.
