Abstract

Alkaloids are nitrogen-containing organic compounds widely existing in organisms, especially in plants. Some alkaloids have a variety of physiological functions such as anti-arrhythmia, anti-hypertension, anti-inflammation and anti-tumor. Arrhythmia is a disease caused by abnormal electrophysiological activity in the heart rate or rhythm. It is the major cause of high cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. It is a serious threat to human health and lives in the worldwide. This paper reviewed the recent progress about the role and mechanisms of alkaloids on anti-arrhythmia. In addition, the development and utilization prospect of alkaloids were introduced.
