The gaseous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) from plants change the chemical composition of atmosphere through a series of redox reaction, and play an important role in the formation of ozone, CO and CH4. The oxidation material has a significant influence on local and even global environment and climate. The impacts of Botanical VOCs (BVOCs) on atmospheric chemistry, greenhouse effect and photochemical smog are introduced briefly in this paper. On the base of domestic and foreign research, the releasing mechanism, synthesis route, as well as estimation of emission rate are also recommended. At last, some advices about future studies, extensive planting forest and urban greening are advanced.
