Abstract: The plant of Plumeria rubra blooms but has no seeds. The study on this species was conducted to discover the cause of its sterility. The development of embryo sac and pollen were both normal using section observation on female and male organ and pollen germination in vitro, and pollen in vitro could germinate pollen tubes. The cylinder of corolla is about 1cm length, and its basal has high humidity. When blooming, the pistil stigma and anthers can not elongate out the cylinder. Therefore, the anthers staying inside humid cylinder can not dehisce and release pollen, which makes obstacle for pollination, and finally causes sterility.
