Abstract: Comparative anatomy on the leaf transverse section of 12 species belonging to Amomum was studied by paraffin method. The results showed that the epidermis consists of one layer of epidermal cells.Epidermal cells of adaxial side are usually wide and tall in species with no hypodermis, while epidermis was thin with cell wall thickening in species with hypodermis. The structure of hypodermis kept diversity in different taxa.Always, palisade cells in mesophyll consist of 1-2 layers and spongy cells of 2-6 layers. Moreover, tannin occurs commonly in mesophyll and crystals are also present in most species examined. The morphology of extreme vascular bundle at midrib phloem is various, but the vascular bundle system II is generally absent, and no species examined appears all four systems at the same time. Finally, the morphological characteristics of leaf margin were synoptically described. In addition, based on the diagnostic characters and the previous research, the systematic significance of the anatomical structure of leaves was also discussed in this paper.
