Changes of main organic material contents in navel orange fruits during storage
    ZHANG Hong-yan, BAO Jiang-feng, PENG Shu-ang
    2003, 32(04): 1-3.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (123KB) ( )
The changes of main organic material contents in navel orange (Citrus sinensis)fruits during ambient temperature storage were studied. The results showed that soluble solids content in fruit increased during early storage and decreased after 10 days, citric acid content decreased significantly, TSS to TA ratio increased remarkably, content of Vc had different variations among 3 varieties and soluble protein content tended to increase. The indexes among 3 cultivars at different periods varied remarkably.

Influences of 3 kinds of interstock on tree growth of Newhall navel orange and some physiological and biochemical indexes in leaf and root
    ZHOU Kai-bing, XIA Ren-xue, LUO Zhong-kui
    2003, 32(04): 4-7.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (154KB) ( )
The effects of different kinds of interstock on tree growth and some physiological and biochemical indexes in leaf and root were studied. The results showed that little difference were observed in tree height, crown diameter and canopy volume between cv. Jincheng and cv. Guoqing No.1, but both of them were significantly greater than cv. Robertson No.36. Jincheng had the greatest spring shoot increment, interstock diameter and scion diameter. Superoxide dismutase (SOD)activities in leaf, root, and root activity of Jincheng were greater, contents of total soluble protein in leaf and root were lower, indicating Jincheng had better double effects on the tree. Significant difference was observed in peroxidase (POD)activities among three kinds of interstock. POD activity in leaf was positive correlation with the tree growth. POD activity in root was negative correlation with the tree or the root growth. Significant difference was observed in catalase (CAT)activities in leaf and root with different kinds of interstocks. Jincheng had the lowest CAT activities in leaf and root.

Effect of bagging on fruit quality of Newhall navel orange
WANG Gui-yuan, JIN Ling, XIA Ren-xue
    2003, 32(04): 8-10.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (122KB) ( )
The experiment was carried out to study the effect on fruit quality after bagging on Newhall navel orange, with different types of paper bag and at different stages to remove the bags. The result suggested that the lightness and yellowness of fruit increased significantly, while the redness was significantly reduced. Individual fruit weight tended to be decreased, and the rind thickness had no significant difference, total soluble solid and TSS/TA were improved after bagging, total acid was reduced after bagging, but not all treatments had significant difference. Double-layer bag is suitable to Newhall navel orange and the optimal time for Newhall navel orange to remove bags is one month before harvest.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (244KB) ( )
The physical and chemical properties of red pigment from Syzygium grijsii, as well as the effects of light, temperature, pH value, oxide-reducing medium on pigment stability were studied and analyzed. The results showed that the procedure of acid-alcohol extraction gave rather satisfied results. The pigment belongs to water-solvent anthocyanins with high content, and is stable below 80℃, but its resistance to oxide and reduction are not good.

Growth and changes of nutrient elements of ‘pearl’ guava fruits
    XIE Zhi-nan, SU Ming-hua, LAI Rui-yun, XU Wen-bao, ZHONG Zan-hua
    2003, 32(04): 22-24,32.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (166KB) ( )
Growth and changes of nutrient elements of "pearl" guava fruits during flowering in autumn season were investigated. A rapid fruit growth from 0 to 65 days after flowering, then a stunted growth until 85 days, and a rapid enlargement during the later growth were observed. The growth rate of fruits exhibited double ‘S’ logistic curve. N, P, K, Ca, Mg concentrations of fruits decreased with the fruit growth, but more and more in absorbing capacity, especially with N, K elements.

The establishment of the in vitro screening procedure of heat-tolerant variants of Gerbera hybrida
    HUANG Zhi-gang, CHEN Zhao-ping, WEN Fang-de, YE Qing-sheng, WANG Xiao-jing
    2003, 32(04): 25-29.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (195KB) ( )
For further screening of heat-tolerant variants six cultivars of Gerbera hybrida were used as materials to be cultured in vitro. The proper treatment times were determined under 35℃ and 45℃ by the measurement of relative electrolyte leakage of cell membrane and the calculation of proliferation rate. The results showed that the relative electrolyte leakage of cell membrane had good correlation with the survival rate of the shoots in vitro after the same heat treatment. There were differences among the heat-tolerance of all cultivars, as well as the same cultivars under 35℃ and 45℃. 20-hour treatment at 45℃ and 10~20-day treatment at 35℃ were the proper heat treatment for all cultivars in our experiments.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (160KB) ( )
The senescence of cut flower is a highly regulated process which requires gene expression activation and protein synthesis, and it is associated with some biochemical changes, such as the increase of hydrolytic enzymes activity, degradation of macro-molecules, increase of respiratory activity and ethylene production. Ethylene production and its function are of important in the study of cut flower senescence. The current status of the study on biosynthesis, response and regulation of ethylene are reviewed.
