Tissue Culture of Anthurium andraeanum and Observation of the Development of Cells and Chloroplasts by Electron Microscope
Yang Tao, Chen Dehai, Wu Liping
    1998, 27(01): 1-7.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (461KB) ( )
Tender leaves of Anthurium andraeanum were cultured on MS medium containing optimal concentration of plant hormones, then the callus were induced and plantlets formed. Observation under electron microscope shows that there are significant differences in ultrastructure among the cells of the puff callus, the tight callus and the tender leaves of plantlets. In the cells of puff callus, cytoplasm are thin, vacuoles are bigger than normal, organelles are few, while no typical plastids and pre-plastids were observed. In the cells of tight callus and the tender leaves, cytoplasm are thick, vacuoles are smaller, the structure and the development of chloroplasts and mitochrodia can be observed clearly. It suggests that one of the causes of failing to differentiate into plantlets from longtime cultured callus is the excessive depression of chloroplasts, thus losing the function of regeneration.

Effects of Calcium on Peroxidase, Respiratory Rate and Production of Ethylene in Actinidia chinensis Fruits with Calcium Treatments in Postharvest Stage
Chen Chun, You Ruichen, Lin Lirong, Lai Menghong, Huang Weinan
    1998, 27(01): 8-11.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (242KB) ( )
Kiwifruits were treated with calcium at postharvest preiod. The changes of ethylene production, respiratory rate and peroxidase (POD) activity of fruits were determined in order to find out an optimum calcium concentration to delay the ripening and decaying of kiwifruits. 2% calcium treatment was found to be able to inhibit ethylene production, respiratory rate and POD activity, and thus delayed the decay of fruits.

Effects of Some Growth Regulators and Mixed Nutrient Medium on the Growth of Salvin splendens
Lin Jianzhong, Lai Ruiyun, Song Zhiyu, Zhang Weipeng
    1998, 27(01): 12-16.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (301KB) ( )
Different sections of stick of Salvia splendens were soaked in different concentrations of growth regulators for 5 seconds. The results showed that treating the cuttings with IAA at 1000 mg/L significantly increased the rooting percentage and rooting number, and the upper sticks rooted easily. GA3 was a perfect chemicals of various growth regulators in promoting flowering and had an earlier flower stage for 10 days and shortened the culture time greatly. Mixed nutrient medium significantly increased the cuttings survival transplanting and improved their features.

The Floristic Characteristics and Exploitation of Forest Vegetation in Kaihua, Zhejiang
    Liu Peng, Chen Liren
    1998, 27(01): 17-22.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (420KB) ( )
Kaihua county is located in the west of Zhejiang Province and the resources of forest vegetation are rich. The six types of forest vegetation are surveyed and the floristic characteristics of forest vegetation in Kaihua are briefly summarized as follows: the woody plant species are abundant; the origin of the flora is very ancient; there are many relict, rare and endangered plants; the geographical elements are complex and the floristic elements are in wide connection with the flora of the world; the temperate elements are dominant. For the rational exploitation of resources of forest vegetation in kaihua, those resources can be classified into nine types, i. e., forest tourism resources, timher resources, medicinal resources, fruit resources, ornamental resources, 0il resources, starch resources, aromatic resources and fiber resources.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (369KB) ( )
The planting distribution and variety resources of Chinese olive (Canarium album) along the shoreline of the Minjiang River are described and the trait character of 15 lines of 3 varietal types are characterized. Based on the shape, size, color, flesh of fruit and radial type strip from stem end, a key to varieties of Chinese olive is worked 0ut.
