A review of the study methods for root exudates
    ZHU Guo-peng, SHEN Hong
    2002, 31(S1): 15-21.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (257KB) ( )
Root exudates are the carrier of material, energy and information among the plant roots, soil, and microorganisms in rhizosphere. The study on types and amount of root exudates plays an important role in the interaction mechanisms among plants, soil, and microorganisms, and study methods have a significant influence on the research. In this paper, the methods for the study of root exudates, including collection, isolation, purification and identification, are reviewed. Meanwhile, the methods for specific root exudates are exampled so as to provide the references for the study of root exudates.

A review of regulation of polar auxin transport by flavonoids
XU Chuan-jun, LI Ling, PENG Yong-hong
    2002, 31(S1): 22-26.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (236KB) ( )
Polar auxin transport is severely controlled in plants. The recent studies on regulation of polar auxin transport by flavonoids are reviewed. It is suggested that flavonoids act as negative regulators of auxin transport in vivo.

    MA Zhi-jie, HU Hong-you
    2002, 31(S1): 27-31.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (190KB) ( )
Research on the original plant species of herb "Jin-xian-lian" are reviewed. It is suggested that they may be three species, i.e. Anoectochilus roxburghii, A. formosanus and A. koshunensis. The anatomical characteristics and the variation of local usages of "Jin-xian-lian" are also described. Some suggestions for commercial production of the medicinal herb and its further study were recommended.

A study on shade tolerance of 13 species of palm trees
    DING Yin-long, YANG Sheng-chang, LIAO qi-liao, WANG Zhen-zhong, TAN Zhong-qi
    2002, 31(S1): 51-56.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (255KB) ( )
Under different shading treatments, the growth, contents of water and chlorophyll in leaves, and ratio of leaf dry weight to leaf area of 13 species of palm trees were studied. By system cluster analysis and principal factor analysis, 13 species of palm trees were classified into three levels of shade tolerance. The species with strong tolerance to shade included Chamaedorea cataractarum, Chuniophoenix nana and Dypsis lutescens, the medium ones included Caryota mitis, Chamaedorea elegans, Chamaedorea seifrizii, Licuala fordiana, Livistona chinensis and Rhapis exelsa, and the weak ones included Archontophoehix alexandrae, Howea forsteriana, Phoenix roebelenii and Ravenea rivularis.

    2002, 31(S1): 57-60.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (157KB) ( )
Introduction and cut flower cultivation techniques of Polianthes tuberosa were studied in Fuzhou, Fujian Province. The results showed that Polianthes tuberosa grew well in open ground and keeping them free from disease and insect injury, vase life of cut flower was 15d and the reproductive rate of solid bulb was 6-10. Controlling the blooming time with cold storage and cultivating in warm house, the solid bulb could produce flower all round the year. The flowering characteristics of Polianthes tuberosa varieties were also described.

Effect of temperature on Anthurium andraeanum growth and development
    GAO Hui-lan, LIU Zhen-yu, SHEN Qing-fa, YE Jing-shui, CHEN Rui-he
    2002, 31(S1): 65-68.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (172KB) ( )
The effects of temperature on growth and development of Anthurium andraeanum were investigated in four temperature experiments. The results showed that the quality and yield of cut flower of Anthurium andraeanum were closely correlated with temperature. The flowers were caused chilling injury and the production and quality of cut flower were lowest as average daily temperature (ADT) was 15℃ and it caused lightly heat damage on Anthurium andraeanum flower at ADT 29.5℃. ADT 26℃ was optimum for the flower production. When the temperature and strength of sunshine changed quickly, the spathe withered with the nutritive disturbance of plant.
