Abstract: Photosynthetic characteristics of Syzygium cumini, Elaeocarpus sylvestris and Schima superba seedlings were studied under different waterlogging depths (0 and 5 cm depths of water aboved soil surface). The results showed that with increasing waterlogging time, net photosynthetic rates, stomatal conductances and transpiration rates of seedlings of the three species were decreased, and decrease ranges of the photosynthetic indices for the treatment with 5 cm waterlogging depth were greater than the treatment with 0 cm waterlogging depth. Decreased range of net photosynthetic rate was decreased in the order of Syzygium cumini > Schima superba > Elaeocarpus sylvestris. With the synthetic judgment of all photosynthetic indices, waterlogging-resistance ability of seedlings of three species was Syzygium cumini > Schima superba > Elaeocarpus sylvestris.
