Cadmium Absorption, Distribution and Tolerance in Longan
    XU Wen-bao, XIE Zhi-nan, LIU Hong-zhou, ZHONG Zan-hua, CAI Xiao-dong
    2007, 36(03): 1-3.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (155KB) ( )
The experiment was carried out using pot-cultured three-year-old longan trees to determine the variation of cadmium (Cd) content and growth of longan plant after Cd applied to soil. The results showed that more of the absorbed Cd assembled in the roots and less transferred to the leaves and fruits. The order of Cd content from high to low in different parts of longan was root, leaves and fruit.Longan tree had strong tolerance to Cd stress. When applied Cd 400 mg/kg to soil, there was no significant toxic symptom on the plant, but the content of Cd in fruit was seriously excessive.

    2007, 36(03): 4-7.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (205KB) ( )
Changes of mineral element accumulation and distribution in leaves and root of young age strawberry under cadmium stress were investigated by hydroponic experiment. The results showed that the accumulation of mineral elements in strawberry root, such as K, Ca, Mg, P, Cu, Zn Mn and Fe, was reduced under stress of high concentration cadmium.Similarly, contents of K, Ca, Mg, P, Cu, Zn, Mn, Fe, B and Mo in strawberry leaves decreased with the increase of cadmium concentration. However, contents of some mineral elements, such as K, Mg, P and Zn in both strawberry leaves and root increased at low cadmium concentration.Mineral element distribution in strawberry changed under cadmium stress. Also, contents of some mineral elements were significantly correlated to each other.

    2007, 36(03): 8-11,36.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (330KB) ( )
Taking the one-year seedlings of Ulmus crassifolia as subjects, which were introduced from America and cultivated in the field, the daily courses of its net production rate (Pn), transpiration rate (Tr) and water utilization efficiency (WUE) in leaves, and its influencing factors were studied under natural condition. The results showed that the curve of Pn diurnal variation was a single peak and its peak value appeared at 11:00;Tr daily courses of leaves from different parts were obviously one-peak curves.Tr peak values of both middle and bottom leaves appeared at 13:00 and peak value of top leaves came out at 15:00 and the descending order of Tr peak values was middle leaves, bottom leaves, top leaves;WUE daily courses of leaves from different parts all presented a one-peaked curve decreasing at one side, WUE of middle and bottom leaves lower than those of top leaves.By main component analysis, path coefficient analysis, or multiple return analysis, major physiological and ecological factors affecting Pn were temperature, Vpdl and light intensity;the influencing factors of Tr and WUE were temperature and Vpdl.

    2007, 36(03): 15-18.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (214KB) ( )
The morphological traits of seeds from 21 self-and cross-combinations in Phalaenopsis and their embryos culture were investigated. The average seed length and seed width were 0.292±0.025 mm and 0.073±0.003 mm, respectively. And the average embryo length and embryo width were 0.151±0.009 mm and 0.069±0.003 mm, respectively. The germination rate and the time required for germination were various because of different combinations. The average germination rate reached 72.4%.The mean time for PLBs and first leaf formation for all combinations were 22±3 and 78±6 days, respectively. The time for germination of cross-combinations was shorter than that of self-combinations and the germination rate was higher. There were no significant correlations among the time required for seed germination, germination rate, fruit size and seed size. But there was significantly linear negative correlation between the time required for seed germination and embryo size.It showed that the seeds with larger embryos would germinate earlier.

Studies on the Tissue Culture in Cymbidium Golden elf.‘Sundust’
    DENG Ying, LING Xu-bai
    2007, 36(03): 40-42.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (154KB) ( )
The paper reported a propagation method of Cymbidium Golden elf.‘Sundust’ in Vitro culture of shoot-tips. The results showed that Protocorm-like-bodies (PLB) could be induced from shoot-tip explants in Hyponex without plant growth regulator. PLB multiplicated fast in Hyponex liquid medium supplemented with 6-BA 1.5 mg/L and developed into cluster PLB; mode of cultivation could obviously influence the multiplication rate of PLBs. PLBs could develop into plantlets without roots in MS or Hyponex medium. Hyponex medium supplemented with NAA 0.2mg/L and IBA 0.6mg/L was suitable for roots induction and growth.
