): 1-4.
Abstract

PDF
(258KB) (
)
The biological characteristics of border cell of tomato (
Lycopersicon esculentum
) and the effect of aluminum on its viability were studied by aeroponic culture. The results showed that the first border cell almost occurred synchronously with primary root tip emergence and the numbers of border cells reached its maximum (893) when the root was 10mm long. The viability of border cell maintained over 93% and increased a little with the elongation of root. However,PME (Pectin Methylesterase) activities decreased slightly with the elongation of root. With the increase of concentration or time of aluminum treatment, viability of border cell decreased significantly. The results also indicated that aluminum was harmful to border cell of tomato.

Segments from filament of
Lilium
‘star gazer’ were cultured as explants on MS medium supplemented with BA 1.0 mg/L and NAA 0.2 mg/L to induce callus and organs.Cytohistological observations on callus and bud formation were carried out.The results were as follows.Callus was initiated from the cut surface of the morphological lower side of explants; Some callus packs developed into roots or shoots, and others developed into shoots from surface cells and developed into roots from inner cells.

Abstract

Seedless Mango (
Mangifera indica
cv.Dongzhen Hongmang) was used to study its flowering behavior and meiosis of pollen mother cells with modified staining and chromosome preparing methods. The results were as follows. The chromosome number of mango is 40 and the meiosis in pollen mother cell is simultaneous cytokinesis;Monovalents is the optical period to study chromosome number;Polyploids are observed in monvovalents and cell's nonsynchronous division is observed in anaphase Ⅱ;Low temperature and rainy days probably gave an impulse to the polyploid and cell's nonsynchronous division; The relationship between abnormal circumstances in meiosis of pollen mother cells and seedless mango were studied on cytogenetics level.

Navel orange (Citrus sinensis cvs.Robertson,Fengqi and Newhall) were chosen as testing materials in Zhoupo,Jingyan County. The studies of pectinmethylesterase (PE),polygalacturonase (PG),β-glycosidase and cellulase in navel orange during development of fruits were shown as follows.PE,PG and β-glycosidase could be tested at different stages.PE activity of pulp was greater than that of peel obviously, the changes of PE activities from Newhall and Robertson navel oranges had three peaks;PE activity of Newhall varied greatly than those of Robertson and Fengqi.PG activity was greater at maturity stage than at young and the expanding stages;PG activity in pulp was greater than in peel.β-glycosidase activity was tested firstly in fruits and the peak of β-glycosidase activity was at maturity stage. The peak of PE activity appeared earlier than those of PG and β-glycosidase.PE and PG were the major enzymes effected the development of navel orange fruits.

Abstract

(250KB) (
)
The effects of different concentrations of growth regulators and sucrose on anthocyanin production of
Celosia cristata
var.
pyramidalis
in cell suspension culture were studied.Anthocyanin accumulation treated with KT was significantly greater than that treated with 6-BA,and the maximal production of anthocyanin was obtained when treated with KT at 2 μmol/L.2,4-D 2 μmol/L and high concentration of sucrose could promote the accumulation of anthocyanin.MS+2,4-D 2 μmol/L+KT 2 μmol/L+sucrose 292 mmol/L gave the best result for anthocyanin accumulation.Light was essential for the induction of anthocyanin. The content of anthocyanin increased with the multiplication of suspension cells.

Taking cotyledon and hypocotyls segments as explants, tissue culture and plant regeneration of pimiento (
Capsicum annuum
var.

C. carlesii
forest of natural regeneration was in the middle stage of succession, and
C. carlesii
forest of artificial regeneration and artificial afforestation were in the degenerative stage.

Taking the camphor tree (
Cinnamomum glanduliferum
) planted by Mr.Deng Xiao-ping in Xiamen Botanical Garden as example, the biological characteristics, original distribution and introduction of
Cinnamomum glanduliferum
in Xiamen were investigated. The results showed that the worsening soil environment had severely limited the activity of tree roots and had a adverse effect on the growth of
C. glanduliferum
.The south-subtropical island climate is one of the main factors resulting in the fast growing and earlier senescence of camphor tree. Some suggestions for maintenance are also put forward.

Tropical medicinal plants are a kind of important forest resources. The main tropical medicinal plants in China are
Amomum villosum,Alpinia oxyphylla,Areca catechu,Morinda officinalis
.We have made progress in standardized production of some tropical medicinal plants.Making a study of tropical medicinal plants by modern scientific way and finding their new active elements have become an efficient approach to new natural medicine research.Further more,we must popularize the GAP rules and enhance the quality control in these medicinal plants.
