Effect of Temperature on the Antioxidative Activities of Rose
ZENG You-wei, XU Liang-xiong, LONG Gang, PENG Yong-hong
    2004, 33(04): 1-4.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (374KB) ( )
Stored at 25℃ and 4℃ for 5 days, respectively, the activities of scavenging DPPH· and.OH free radical of extracts from rose (Rosa rugosa) increased during the first four days and decreased at the fifth day; the capacity of scavenging O2· free radical and Vc content increased consistently during the whole storage period. The co-relationship analysis showed that DPPH-scavenging activity and polyphenlic content, O2·-scavenging activity and Vc content were significant at 5% level. Low temperature storage was better for maintaining the antioxidative activity of rose flower.

Effects of Different Kinds of Interstock on the Content of Carbohydrates in Scion's Leaves and Rootstock's Roots
    ZHOU Kai-bing, XIA Ren-xue, WANG Gui-yuan, WU Qiang-sheng
    2004, 33(04): 5-7,14.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (337KB) ( )
Taking Huahong navel orange/three kinds of interstock/Poncirus trifoliate as materials, the field experiment is conducted to study the double effects of different kinds of interstock on the content of carbohydrates in scion's leaves and rootstock's roots. The results indicated that three kinds of interstock had no effects on the tendencies of the annual changes in total soluble sugars in scion's leaves and in the contents of starch and total carbohydrates in rootstock's leaves. With the respect of annual changes, three kinds of interstock varied in early tendency of starch content and in late tendency of total carbohydrates in scion's leaves and in tendency of total soluble sugars in rootstock's roots. The carbohydrate contents in most of different periods had significant difference among three kinds of interstock.

Effects of Drought Stress on Malondiadehyde Content and Cell Membrane Permeability in Tobacco Leaves
QIN Peng, LIU Ye-ju, LIU Fei-hu
    2004, 33(04): 8-10.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (409KB) ( )
The malondiadehyde content and cell membrane permeability of five pot-cultured tobacco cultivars and lines under drought stress were studied. The results showed that the malondiadehyde content increased at first, and then decreased with the increase of drought stress, while the cell membrane permeability kept increasing during drought stress; after rewatering the cell membrane permeability soon recovered while the malondiadehyde content needed a long time to restore. The cell membrane permeability responded to some extent of drought stress and the stabilization of malondiadehyde content might be meaningful to drought resistant of tobacco.

    WU Wei-Jian, GAO Ze-zheng
    2004, 33(04): 11-14.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (387KB) ( )
The experiment of food preference of Plutella xylostella was conducted to study the blood relationship of glucosinolate-containing plants. Based on the data of food preference, the feeding index of Plutella xylostella was generated and the dendrogram in SPSS was constructed by using hierarchical cluster. The results showed that 18 species were clustered into 6 groups. It is basically consistent with the traditional morphological taxonomy (Taktajan and Cronquist system) and consistent with the results of nucleotide sequences from the plastid gene rbc L.

Effects of Ozone Water on Postharvest Physiological and Biochemical Indexes of Litchi
LI Jie, ZHU Bi-yan, DING Si-bing, ZHANG Ming-guang
    2004, 33(04): 15-18.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (362KB) ( )
This experiment was conducted to study the effect of different concentrations of ozone water on the contents of anthocyanin, flavonoid and the activities of PPO and POD in peel, and titrable acidity and sugar contents in juice of postharvest fruit of litchi. Compared with CK, the contents of anthocyanin and flavonoid decreased more quickly after ozone water treatment. The activity of PPO was lower than CK and POD activity was higher than CK while the titrable acidity and sugar contents had little variation. It indicated that a definite concentration of Ozone water could keep the litchi fruit from browning.

Ecological Distribution and Salt Tolerance of Terminalia catappa
LIN Xi, YAN Zhong-zheng, WANG Wen-qing
    2004, 33(04): 22-25.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (327KB) ( )
The distribution of Terminalia catappa on coast areas of Hainan Island was investigated, and the effects of substrate salinity on artificially cultured T. catappa seedlings in greenhouse are also studied. The results showed that T. catappa had a higher salt tolerance. It could grow normally in the soil with a salinity of 17.09‰. In the greenhouse, the seedling of T. catappa could survive at 10‰ salt treatment. The results also indicated that a salinity of 10‰ could increase the chlorophyll content in seedling leaves, which a salinity of 20‰~30‰ decreased; photosynthetic rate in leaves tended to decrease under salt stress, and soluble sugar content tended to increase with increasing salinity.

Effects of Paclobutrazol and Triadimofon on the Micropropagation of Gerbera jamesonii
    MAYILAAi-li, LIAO Fei-xiong
    2004, 33(04): 32-34.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (2636KB) ( )
Adding 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6 mg/L paclobutrazol to MS medium, a higher propagation rate of stocky plantlets (Gerbere jamesonii) were achieved, and the plantlets rooted better in subculture and had higher transplanting survival percentage than the control. Paclobutrazol at 0.2~1.0mg/L in rooting culture improved the development of root and increased the root number of plantlets. Triadimofon at 0.1mg/L also reduced the height of plantlets and increased the propagation rate.

Somatic Embryogenesis and Plantlet Regeneration of Euphorbia pulcherrima
    ZHU Gen-fa, LU Fu-bing, CHEN Ming-li, WANG Bi-qing
    2004, 33(04): 37-38,41.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (246KB) ( )
The callus induction varied in different parts of Euphorbia pulcherrima. The young stem was more effective than the young inflorescens, and the young leaf was less effective than the formers. The growth speed of callus depended mainly on auxin, and was promoted by cytokinin. Embryogenesis frequency of the callus induced on MS medium with 6-BA and NAA was higher than those induced on MS medium with only NAA. Suspension culture was regarded as a intermediate step to promote embryo production. The concentrations of 6-BA in the MS medium has no influence on the embryo germination frequency. Doubling the concentration of KNO3 in the medium promoted embryo germination.

    Abstract ( )   PDF (328KB) ( )
The commercialization of Genetically Modified Crops (GMC) has developed rapidly since 1997. On the one hand, GMC possess superior agronomic features and great economic benefits, on the other hand, they have caused great controversy because of its negative effects. Based on the features and the development of GMC, the negative effects of GMC on genetic diversity are evaluated in this paper, and some countermeasures should be taken in China.
