    Abstract ( )   PDF (282KB) ( )
An orthogonal design experiment was used to investigate the effects of a combination of 6-BA, GA3, 2,4-D at different concentrations on juice sac granulation of Guanxi pomelo fruit. The order of effects of three kinds of growth regulators on granulation was 6-BA, GA3, 2,4-D, and 300mg/L, 6-BA, 100mg/L GA3,10mg/L 2,4-D gave the best results in reducing the index of fruit granulation. A 2-year application of the selective combination indicated that the combination had a significant role in reducing fruit granulation.

CHEN Liaixuan, CHEN Li-hong, YOU Rui-chen, HUANG Wei-nan
    1999, 28(01): 5-8.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (263KB) ( )
The fruit quality of "Fengxiang" strawberry at different ripening stages were studied. Constant changes of the fruit were observed during fruit ripening, especially at the pink stage, with remarkable changes in fruit hardness, and solids/acids ratio. The optimum harvest was at the red ripe stage, when the solids/acids ratio and vitamin C reached to 6.77 and 44.71mg/100gfw, respectively, being maximum value at the ripening stage; and when the fruit hardness ranged from 0.4 to 7.0 kg/cm2, the anthocyanidin content from 150~230abs/100cm2, the strawberry fruits had colorful appearance, moderate hardness and excellent taste.

Experiment of organic-mineral fertilizer ratio in Guanxi honey pomelo orchard
    XU Wen-bao, ZHUANG Yi-mei, XIE Zhi-nan, WANG Ren-ji, HUANG Yu-zong
    1999, 28(01): 9-13.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (365KB) ( )
Both organic and mineral fertilizer at different ratios were applied to Guanxi honey pomelo orchard during 1995~1998, and their effects on juice sac granulation and dehiscent segments of fruit, yield and soil nutrients were studied. The results showed that compared with the sole mineral fertilizer, applying the combined organic fertilizer and mineral fertilizer effectively reduced the granulation of fruit, greatly increased the content of organic matter in soil and favored to improve the quality of fruit. Furthermore, mineral fertilizer combined with 50% organic fertilizer also significantly increased the yield of fruit. It was found that through balanced fertilization, a high yield of Guanxi honey pomelo fruit was achieved every year, and higher level of soil fertility and plant nutrition was held, while the granulation of fruit tended to decrease year by year. It is suggested that the annual application of 1.5kg N(with the organic forms from 30% to 50%) added with 1.0~1.5kg lime is available to a plant with 100kg yield of fruit in a red orchard, and its element proportion is:1.00:0.50~0.60:1.00-1.05:100~130:0.28.

Studies on accelerating germination and growth habit of seedlings of Strelitzia reginae
    HU Hong-you, HUANG Wei-nan
    1999, 28(01): 22-25.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (274KB) ( )
Dipping the seeds of Strelitzia reginae into the solution of 95% H2SO4 (1/10 volume of the seeds) for 3~5 minutes gave the best result to accelerate germination, which softened the seed coat, removed the surface wax easily without causing the seed damage. The treatment with the solution of 1N NaOH take the second place, but the treatment with 95% alcohol was not so effective on the germination. When the seedlings were treated with a combination of Zineb with 700 times diluted solution and 0.02 mg/L NAA for one hour before being transplanted. They effectively resisted diseases and had a higher survival rate. A fertile medium with permeable acid soil is also necessary for the seedling growth. A shading of 60%~80% is an important condition for the seedlings to survive in the hot summer days.

Aseptic seedling and individual plant regeneration of Cymbidium scinense
LU Xue-hua, GUO Wen-jie, LIN Yong
    1999, 28(01): 34-37.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (273KB) ( )
The aseptic seedling results of Cymbidium scinense were observed that when they were cultured on the media supplemented without any cytokinin, seeds can sprout but only protocorm and rhizome came into being, and they cannot differentiate further into seedlings. Only on the MS or Knudson C media containing different hormones can they induce shoot initiation. The medium added with 0.5~1.0mg/L 6-BA and 0.1mg/L NAA gave the best results. The MS medium added with 2.0mg/L BA and 0.4mg/L NAA can accelerate greatly shoot differentiation rate, when rhizome was transferred onto the liquid proliferation medium added with the same hormones and cultured at the stage of vibration. The medium added with 0.5% activated carbon had obvious synergy effect for shoot differentiation. MS medium added with 0.2mg/L NAA gave the best result in seedling rooting.

The role of ethylene in the development of plant morphogensis
    LI Feng-yu, LIANG Hai-man
    1999, 28(01): 76-80.
    Abstract ( )   PDF (412KB) ( )
Ethylene plays an important regulatory role in many aspects in the growth and development of plants such as root formation, floral induction, organ senescence and abscission, and so on. Studies indicated that ethylene is a positive regulator of root hair development in the Arabidopsis root epidermis, and the early reaction of the process of post-pollination perianth wilting of orchids increases the sensitivity to endogenous levels of ethylene.
